Porirua city centre - existing

Porirua City Council’s City Centre Revitalisation project is about creating a more prosperous city for the community and businesses and is one of the top priorities for the Council at present.

The revitalisation plan represents years of planning by the Council with input from the community, businesses and stakeholder groups. The project officially got off the ground during 2010.  More than $14 million in funding has been committed by the Council over the next eight years for changes to infrastructure and public spaces in stage one of this project.

Work has begun on Stage one of the project: “Developing the Heart.”  The vision for the heart includes a weekend market, a children’s play area, a food and beverage courtyard, and the creation of a new high street.

Impact Project Management has been awarded the project management contract for part of stage one of the City Revitalisation Project, namely the area which encompasses Cobham Court and the old Challenge Petrol Station directly opposite the Cobham Court car park.

Extensive landscape work will enhance the area to provide a weekend market on the old Challenge service station site.   Traffic and parking layouts will be altered to provide a safer thoroughfare for pedestrians accessing the market and the shopping area.

In addition the Council will be encouraging private investors to get involved in developing new and existing buildings for additional retail and corporate tenants in this area.

Impact’s role is project managing the design and upgrade of Cobham Court which includes deconstruction of the existing canopies and the construction of a new town square, children’s play area and kiosk.

Impact are working closely with architects on the architectural designs for the Cobham Court area and working through the issues associated with removing the existing canopies.
